6th International Workshop on Streptococcus suis (6th IWSs)
Emergence of pathogenicity and antimicrobial resistance with intensive farming - challenges and solutions
The intensification of farming, characterized by growing pig numbers, use of antimicrobials and global trade is linked to the expansion of pathogenic, zoonotic and resistant lineages of Streptococcus suis. To feed a global growing population, and to protect food security and public health, it is imperative to understand these relationships and their drivers, enabling better design of healthy pig production systems, including methods to prevent, detect, treat and manage the emergence of pathogenic strains. Deeper insights into the relationship between intensification and evolution of pathogenic S. suis may also offer valuable principles in wider questions of pathogen emergence.
We are delighted to host the 6th International Workshop on Streptococcus suis (6th IWSs) in Cambridge, UK, in September 2025. This global gathering will bring together researchers, veterinarians, and industry experts and builds upon the success of the first five IWSs, located in China (2013), Argentina (2014), Germany (2016), Canada (2019), and Thailand (2023) respectively. We look forward to hosting this exciting meeting and discussing the latest challenges and advancements in S. suis research.
